Neighborhood Activities & Events

Participate in a Committee

Community members meet regularly through LCC committees. Whether you are interested in safety, housing, development, the environment, schools, commercial revitalization or other issues. Our committees are great forums to bring attention to topics that are important to you and work with others on planning efforts and activities.

Longfellow Events

The fun is all around! Celebrate the Mississippi River Gorge with a family-friendly event of canoe rides, ice cream, and nature hikes. Learn new fiber art skills and spend time with other creative community members at Mittenfest. Participate in our annual Community Garage Sale. Learn more about all those events and more!

Attention, Lake Street shoppers: Our popular Lake Street Loyalty Challenge is back for another holiday season! Get rewarded for supporting small businesses on Lake Street.

Shoppers who spend a minimum of $15 at a Lake Street-area business from November 15 through December 15 will receive a $15 gift card to another local business along the corridor!

All challenge participants are also entered to win a grand prize valued at more than $1,000 – an increase from last year’s grand prize value of $500!

Here’s how to participate:

1. Spend $15 at a local Lake Street business (or nonprofit – donations count, too!) between November 15 - December 15.
2. Upload your receipt to prove your purchase. This form will open on November 15th.
3. Get a $15 gift card to another Lake Street business! You will also automatically be entered to win the challenge’s grand prize.

For businesses and organizations that are located in the Minnehaha Avenue and Lake Street area: please consider participating in the next Safety Coalition Meeting.
The Ward 9 Office cordially invites you to their upcoming Lake and Minnehaha Safety Coalition meeting. Their aim is to strengthen connections within our communities by fostering open conversations and sharing valuable resources.

Council Member Chavez, along with The City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, our stakeholders, and community members, is committed to enhancing the safety and well-being of Ward 9, including the Longfellow neighborhood. They’ve heard from residents that there is a strong interest in topics such as housing responses, health initiatives, and addressing issues like lighting and trash in relation to safety procedures beyond 911 and 311.

During this meeting, representatives from the city, county, and various stakeholders will provide updates and share resources. They will also reserve time for Longfellow community members to ask questions and offer feedback.

Your insights and participation are appreciated to their ongoing efforts to address the challenges facing the Ward 9 community.
